The Southern Conference announced their league TV/Digital schedule last week. UNCG is scheduled to appear on ESPN3 three times this season (the women's team will be shown once), including 2 back-to-back road contests in January. The league also announced that some select contests would appear on Charter/Comcast Sports Southeast. While that station is mainly available in South Carolina, it's still good to see the league office trying to establish an actual over the air TV presence for the SoCon.

Thoughts
UNCG started out the game like a team that had never played together before and fell behind 32-11 after the first quarter (they played four 10 minute quarters). The Spartans won the last 3 quarters of the game 52-51. It seem exactly like what you would've expected from this team on this trip playing against a very experienced pro team. Based on stats, it looks like fouls were an issue for UNCG. Good to see the team bounce back in the last 3 quarters and compete. All in all not a bad effort and a good learning experience.

This time, though, junior transfer Kyle Cain showed why he's going to be a force in the SoCon by posting 18 points and 11 rebounds. After a double digit defeat in their first game, UNCG showed a lot more fight against a very good team. This was another good learning experience.

The Catalunya team shot an amazing 44 free throws, but the Spartans controlled the boards for the second straight night and put 4 players in double figures (Locke, Cain, Saddler & Outlaw). This last game gave UNCG a chance to have to make plays at the end to win a contest. Back-to-back baskets by Locke and Saddler in the final 50 seconds allowed UNCG to grab the win.

Spartans Head to Spain
The NCAA allows programs to make one summer trip to play foreign teams. This summer UNCG is heading to Spain to compete in 5 exhibition games. The team was also allowed 10 practices to prepare for the trip. Considering that there are going to be 8 new faces on the court this fall for the Spartans, this is a great opportunity. However, the competition will be stout. The team will face 2 national teams before moving on to play 3 club games over the 10-day period. UNCGSpartans.com will have live stats and blog posts from Nicholas Paulos about the trip. I'll try to post any game info I get here on the site.

Gulf Coast Showcase
Even though the Gulf Coast Showcase (I'm not sure if this tournament has a sponsor name yet) brackets haven't been announced yet, the athletics department did mention in it's press release the other 7 teams in the men's bracket of the tournament. Spartans Release 2013-2014 Schedule
UNCG released their 2013-2014 schedule on Monday. It features an odd mix of 4 ACC opponents and 3 non-D1 teams. The Spartans will also be playing in 2013 Gulf Coast Showcase in Naples/Ft Myers, FL. The brackets for that tournament have not been released yet.

Schedule Released Today
UNCG will be releasing their 2013-2014 men's basketball schedule today. You can get an early preview of it by checking out their Twitter feed. So, far it has mentioned UNCG playing High Point at the Greensboro Coliseum on November 8. I will post a full recap of the schedule tomorrow.

UNCG to Play Tar Heels for next 3 seasons
I know this is very old news, but UNCG and UNC-Chapel Hill agreed to play a 3 year series back in February. There will be two trips for the Spartans to Chapel Hill sandwiched around a Tar Heels visit to the Greensboro Coliseum. This season's game will be played at the Smith Center on December 7.
