Spartan Notes:
- UNCG went to the locker room down just 4 against WCU on Thursday night, but could get no closer. The Cats won 79-69. Ben Stywall lead UNCG with 24 points and 14 rebounds.
- This is last of a 3 game road trip for UNCG this week. So far the Spartan have dropped games at Chattanooga (Monday) and Western Carolina (Thursday).
- UNCG is 0-14 this season when scoring less than 70 points. The Spartans are 3-0 when scoring more than 70.
- Stywall leads the team in scoring (13.4) and rebounding (9.6). Kyle Randall leads in assists (2.2).
- For the year, UNCG is shooting 38% from the field, 27.6% from behind the arc and 70.4% from the free throw line.

Mountaineer Notes:
- a 52 point 2nd half turned back an Elon upset bid on Thursday night. Kellen Brand lead App State with 20 points.
- App State comes into the game sporting a 6-2 record at the Holmes Center.
- The Mountaineers are 3-2 in the conference and are 1 1/2 games ahead of UNCG in the North Division.
- Donald Simms leads ASU in scoring (18.9). Isaac Butts leads in rebounding. (8.2) Ryann Abraham leads the team in assists (2.6).
- For the season, App State is shooting 47.2% from the field, 38.7% from behind the arc and 72.9% from the free throw line.

My Thoughts:
This is one of those rivalry games that is just always close. Last season, UNCG got it's first D1 win at the Holmes Center in overtime. The Mountaineers returned the favor a few weeks later by hitting a buzzer beater 3 to win in Fleming Gym by 1. This season, UNCG is looking to keep alive it's hopes at one of the tournament byes available in the North Division.

The Spartans will have to contend with one of the best shooting teams in the SoCon and one of the most electric players in the SoCon (Sims). defense will be key in this one.

UNCG has been on a scenario where it hasn't played well in back-to-back games in a while. After a decent showing at Western Carolina on Thursday, the Spartans need an even better effort today to win in Boone.

Go Spartans !!!
